Laser Hair removal and African Americans?
Question by gurlycirl: Laser Hair removal and African Americans?
I’m interested in laser hair removal, but I’ve heard horror
stories about African American women receiving sever burns and
scarring who have tried it. Has anyone tried it? How effective is the procedure on darker skin tones and/or coarse dark hair? What
would cause burning and scars in darker skin tones?

just wax instead. it may not be permanent, but at least you can choose whether to keep the hair or not. waxing also reduces the hair everytime you do it. i think laser hair removal is kind of risky, but if you’re really up to it, just go to a good, trusted specialist.
From what I have heard (from a dermatologist), it can cause skin discoloration because the laser has trouble distinguishing between the dark hair that it’s seeking and dark skin. I wouldn’t recommend it, but it’s best to speak to a dermatologist or other doctor.

well african american skin scars more easily so i’d be careful if i were you. (or darker skin tones in general.) if you have very sensitive skin, then i’d resort to shaving. dont trust spa employees they just care if they get their moolah.
